You could Try Yoga for Digestive Disorders

I said it once, and I’ll say it again…YOGA ROCKS!!!

Though it is widely known as a very ancient form of exercise, this particular physical culture has great abilities to provide solutions to several health related problems even today.

This even applies to gastrointestinal problems faced by us regularly.

Several poses or asanas could be used for the digestive system to provide you complete relief, be it the 'IBS' or irritable bowel syndrome, diarrhea, constipation, heartburns, etc.

Still, it must be pointed out that yoga exercises are not like allopathic medicines which generally provide you short term but instantaneous relief.

Even like a fast, these exercises will take a week to become completely effective, but you can be assured that you will be completely cured from your gastro-intestinal problems.

So what are the exact poses?

For beginners there are asanas like the 'ardha dharnurasan' half of the dhanurasan where you require to lift only the upper torso to rest its weight on stomach.

Combined of course with the Yoga diet, trust me, you’ll be on your way to better digestive health.

Yoga for Sleeping Like a Baby

Most experts have stated that sleeplessness is the manifestation of an active or agitated mind working itself up against our will to sleep.

To put that in lay man's terms, what that means is we are not in control of our mind, and hence, our bodies.

Perhaps, this could be attributed to today's fast-paced and stressful lifestyle - late night dinners and global work environment, for example - muck up the body's circadian rhythm, as we put sleep on hold when work and social demands take a hold on us.

Research has also indicated that insomnia is caused by the over stimulation of the senses.

Some culprits could include consuming stimulants late in the evening or watching violent TV shows too close to bedtime.

These are known to rev us up so much that it is difficult to withdraw our mind from the swirl of thoughts it gets sucked up into at the end of the day.

    So in comes Yoga.

With our minds, always jumping from the past to the future, it perhaps never really savors the present.

On the contrary, the correct practice of yoga involves "mindfulness" - that is, the focusing on the sensations of breathing and stretching while performing the movements of the yogasanas and holding various postures.

We can induce the body and mind to let go and experience physical, mental and emotional relaxation by conscious mindful relaxation techniques of yoga.

One asana that heightens your self awareness and also give instant release from stress is Shavasana, the Corpse pose. In this exercise, you direct each part of the body to relax itself, by directing the consciousness to each of these parts. When the body is totally relaxed, the brain, though totally awake, is fully relaxed too.

Also to help even the best of the Yoga poses out, it is a good idea to avoid eating anything in the 2-3 hours before bedtime, to not watch TV in bed and to not eat too much before sleep as the diegestion could hinder the sleeping process in the manifestation of bad dreams.

Well, here's to better sleep overall through Yoga.

Sleeplessness is the manifestation of an active or agitated mind working itself up against our will to sleep. That means we are not in control of our mind, and hence, our bodies. Yoga puts back the control in our hands and lets us 'sleep like a baby'.
Today's fast-paced and stressful lifestyle - late night dinners and global work environment, for example - muck up the body's circadian rhythm, as we put sleep on hold when work and social demands take a hold on us. Insomnia is caused by the over stimulation of the senses. Consuming stimulants late in the evening or watching violent TV shows too close to bedtime can rev us up so much that it is difficult to withdraw our mind from the swirl of thoughts it gets sucked up into at the end of the day.
Our minds, always jumping from the past to the future, never really savors the present. The correct practice of yoga involves "mindfulness" - that is, the focusing on the sensations of breathing and stretching while performing the movements of the yogasanas and holding various postures. We can induce the body and mind to let go and experience physical, mental and emotional relaxation by conscious mindful relaxation techniques of yoga. To understand this, the next time you fly off the handle and your blood pressure shoots up, just observe with detachment your fast breathing and the tight facial muscles. Within minutes your breathing will slow down and the pressure dip.
So one can control thought processes by gaining control over one's breathing through the yogic practice of Pranayama, done with a full awareness of the body sensations - of the cool air entering the lungs through the nostrils as you breathe in, with the diaphragm going down pushing the abdomen out, and the warm air leaving the nostrils as you breathe out, with the diaphragm going up bringing the abdomen in toward the spine. As you complete more cycles of the breathing, it becomes more rhythmic, and a harmony sets in between the mind and the body. Slow and rhythmic breathing, coupled with a mental chanting of some mantra like 'Om' done with complete self awareness, is the shield against the ripples of thought continuously emanating from the still waters of the mind. This can be done almost anywhere, even amidst a crowd, though ideally you should select a quiet place and sit cross-legged in the Sukhasana posture with your eyes closed gently.
Another asana that heightens your self awareness and also give instant release from stress is Shavasana, the Corpse pose. In this exercise, you direct each part of the body to relax itself, by directing the consciousness to each of these parts. When the body is totally relaxed, the brain, though totally awake, is fully relaxed too. Avoid strenuous exercise in the late evenings as it can be stimulating. But if you exercise at any other time, you'll sleep better. It's OK to do long, slow stretches near bedtime, however, for they will release muscular tension and prepare you for sleep.
Doing all the asanas with total body awareness and listening to our own thoughts would ultimately lead us to detach the 'I' in each of us from the body and mind and the clutch of emotions and feelings engulfing it. Such a detached awareness will ultimately lead to equanimity, and by extension, a peaceful sleep.

firming the body with a good yoga regimen

Take one look at stars like Madonna, Sting, etc and you may realize that you are missing out on one undeniable type of physical culture: Yoga.

From the several studios around, to sites that give advice on the exercise, it’s safe to say there are many reasons that you might decide to begin firming the body with a good Yoga regimen.

For some people, it may be being afflicted with health problems that keep them from exercising at a gym.

Still, it’s safe to say, based on the visible results, for those firming the body with a good yoga regimen, the signs of aging will not be as noticeable.

When you analyze it, since many Yoga exercises require various stretching techniques, the body will be more pliable and ready for exercise in addition, the exercises used in firming the body with a good Yoga regimen will help to make the muscle toning exercises more noticeable and long lasting.

Statistics have proven immensely that yoga prepares the whole body for the aging process and has been proven to be an effective alternative to exercise when the aged can no longer continue with the full brunt of exercises that they once did in a gym.

When firming the body with a good Yoga regimen, people know that there is no rush to stretching the muscles and no time limit has been set for each pose that is used in a good Yoga regimen.

Yoga works Great for Even the Abs

Admittedly, most people think of Yoga as getting into a pretzel-looking pose that only the flexible-beyond-belief-might be able to do.

However, though, in some instances this may be true, there are still some simple poses that just about anyone can do and particularly, for those looking to work on their mid-sections, these poses will definitely come in handy.

In regards to the love-handles, these exercises are of especial benefits.

    1. The Spinal Twist:

-Bend the right leg at the knee and set the heel against your butt.

-Do not allow the heel to move from this place. Now bend the left leg at the
knee and with the hands, arrange the foot to rest on the floor by the external side of the thigh, then passing the right arm over the left knee, catch hold of the left foot firmly with the right hand.

-The left knee is now placed at the right axilla

    Benefits:

    This Pose

    -Removes constipation.

-Bends the spine laterally and keeps it elastic and consequently the sympathetic nerves are toned.

    -Eliminates poisons produced in digestion.

-Exercises the love handles, hereby alleviating their protrusion.

The next pose for a love handle exercise is the

    2. Triangle Pose:

-Stand straight, extend your legs about 3-4 feet apart. Bend to your left and touch the floor as illustrated. Stand straight without bending the knees and repeat the same on the right.

    This Pose-

-Tones the Spinal nerves and abdominal organs.

-Increases peristalsis, the body is made light.

-It tones the reproductive organs and alleviates chemical imbalances.

Finally, for success with any love handle exercise, remember, DIET, DIET, DIET...a proper diet that is. The best choice will be the Mucus-less or Mucus-Lean diet of your raw and 'properly' cooked vegetables.

So, Yes, yoga does have something for everything and everyone…even those needing help with their waistlines.

    Om.

Having your own yoga mats is crucial

So, by now…who hasn’t heard of Yoga?

It’s safe to say at this stage, one of the best and most popular ways to relieve stress is yoga.

As a result, these days, Yoga has become the in thing all over the world. Many people get great results by doing simple yoga exercises regularly and these people also report that a great deal of stress relief comes with the exercise.

However, suffice it to say that before you get started with beginners’ yoga there is one very important thing you need to get your hands on – some yoga mats.

Not to worry though, Yoga mats can be found everywhere now, even at your local K-Mart.

Still, it is noteworthy to mention that having your own yoga mats is crucial when it comes to doing yoga.

And really there’s no excuse not to have yours…heck maybe even two.

Remember though, you want to keep them clean, in a dry place and I’ll go out on a limb and say you wanna treat it like a toothbrush…ONLY YOU SHOULD USE IT…

Think about it…all the sweating and stepping on it, you don’t want to share it now do you…

Besides, most old Yoga Gurus go as far as to saying have just one room for your practice and allow no one in there…so really this doesn’t sound extreme..

    Well…strike a pose friend.

    Understand the Physiology of Breathing.

Yogic sages have always believed that breathing is one of the primary rhythms we see in life which include sleep awake, birth and death, light and dark.

Taking that into consideration, it should be of little or no wonder that significant studies have been done to examine the role breathing has on aspects of our life such as health, emotional well being, relationships and the state of society in general.

Now, yoga sages and teachers believe that in yoga, the breath is known as a rather unifying principle called prana, a wide-reaching energy that can bridge body, mind and spirit together in a harmony that is the basis of yoga and meditation.

Those who practice yoga believe that this state of harmony is natural and that there are many aspects of life that pull apart our inner harmony. Yoga breathing exercise is one of the basic fundamental techniques we can use to control and even eliminate the impact external forces have on our overall health and well-being.

All of that considered, it is noteworthy that one learns the basics of Yogic breathing, hence the basics offered herewith.

    1.      Practice Breathing. First and foremost is that we must give ourselves the permission, time and motivation to improve our breathing through exercise.

    2. Become Aware of your body as it breathes. Yoga breathing techniques stress the role of your body, your abdomen, your ribs, your thorax and chest as well as your lungs in the yoga breathing process.

    3. Focus on both inhalation and exhalation.

    4. In due time, you can add the stage of retention, but adhere to the ratio of 1:4:2 for each stage with 4 seconds minimum and 16 seconds maximum for the inhalation stage.

    5. Be careful of your diet.

In conclusion, it’s noteworthy that the long-term health benefits of yoga breathing exercise are thought to be significant, but you can always get some short-term ones like increase in energy, decrease in stress and just a general feeling of exhilaration with the use of pranayama.

It is worth the trial of it really.

I expect These Questions about Yoga?

It slipped out in conversation once with co-workers that I do Yoga.

The first question I got albeit with a strange look from the person asking was “isn’t that stuff just stretching…?

    I said no.

For those who are aware of its totality, yoga is way more than just that. Yoga is a great exercise to take up if you are looking to get in shape and deal with stress. It is an exercise that anyone can do for the rest of their life.

    Still the questions persist:
Can I still do yoga if I am not very flexible? Yes you can, yoga is not just about flexibility. It is about relaxation and holding poses.

Do men do yoga? Yes of course. In fact yoga has become much more popular for men over the last few years.

Will yoga help me lose weight? Yes yoga can help you lose weight. It will give you the discipline to maintain a healthy lifestyle, eliminate temptations to eat junk food and will help ease stress. Stress causes you to gain weight and reducing it might help you reduce your weight.

How often should I do yoga? A good start would be to go for a 60 minute class twice a week. It is hard to overdo it however and if you could do 30 minutes every day you would be in good shape.

I still believe some questions may linger about the use of this physical culture of exercise, but nonetheless, these being the more common ones, it’s my hope that if applicable to you, they have been answered.

I will say this much…get in tune and strike a pose…you don’t know what you’re missing if you aren’t doing some Yoga.
