Yoga can help ADD patients feel calm

Using Yoga to Manage ADD by bekki

Exercise is a powerful tool for ADD management. Medical professionals recommend that adults get at least 30 minutes of aerobic exercise (such as running or biking) 3-5 times per week to improve their general health. For ADDers, this type of exercise is particularly beneficial, because it may balance production of neurotransmitters and reduce stress levels. Another form of exercise that ADDers are finding valuable is yoga. When practiced regularly, yoga offers numerous health benefits, such as increased strength and flexibility, and decreased blood pressure and cholesterol levels. However, the greater benefits of yoga are arguably the psychological ones. Yoga combines physical activity with self-awareness, which promotes a mind-body connection that many ADDers lack.

When ADDers report challenges with impulsivity and hyperactivity, they often describe feeling like they don’t have control over their own bodies. They find themselves speaking before thinking their thoughts through, and often regret their words. They constantly fidget, unaware that their bubbling energy can be disruptive to others in work and social situations. And they feel as if they simply cannot stop the whirlwind of thoughts spinning in their heads.

Yoga can help ADDers learn how to forge a mind-body connection that promotes self-awareness and self-control. Yoga practitioners are taught deep breathing and relaxation techniques that help center the mind in the present moment. Practitioners are also guided into holding different postures, called asanas. Each asana is held for an extended period of time, as the practitioner focuses on holding the best posture that they can, while breathing calmly and deeply. The asanas promote stretching, strengthening, and balancing, as the deep breathing promotes relaxation and mental awareness.

It is important to remember that yoga is not meant to be stressful or taxing on the body. People should be encouraged to concentrate only on themselves and not the others in the class, and to do only what feels comfortable. A practitioner should never feel pressured to perform. If an ADDer finds him/herself at a yoga class that moves too quickly, or focuses heavily on strength training, they will not reap the intended benefits, and may find themselves overwhelmed. The best place to find yoga instruction is at a yoga center, where the instructors practice yoga as a way of life, and teach both the physical and psychological components.

Yoga can help ADDers feel calm, centered, in control, and in touch with their bodies. Practiced regularly, ADDers will find that yoga is a powerful mental and physical refresher that they can retreat to when feeling out of control or overwhelmed.

Yoga clothing does not need to be a fashion statement

Yoga Clothing Should Be Conducive To Stretching by Ann Marier -

Yoga clothing does not need to be a fashion statement although many who practice yoga like to wear fashionable yoga clothing to their classes. Other people do their yoga at home so their clothing for a yoga session is not seen by anyone including the instructor who is usually on a television screen.

Yoga is a series of poses or asanas that come from a practice started in ancient times by members of the Hindu religion. These yoga positions are designed to stretch the body for maximum flexibility and serenity. The yoga clothing should be designed to help each student execute the poses.

Yoga clothing needs to provide for the stretching that takes place in each yoga pose. These poses are often executed on a special yoga mat on the floor. Other poses are standing positions. The clothing for a yoga session should be soft and cover most of the body that will come into contact with the yoga mat. The clothing should cover most parts of the body except the feet which are almost always bare. The yoga clothing usually covers the legs completely. The shoulders and neck are sometimes left bare with some appropriate yoga clothing.

Yoga Clothing Is Available At Sporting Goods Outlets

Special yoga clothing is available at the sporting goods stores and in the sportswear section of department stores. There are several outlets that provide yoga clothing on the internet. The clothing for a yoga session usually includes some soft pants that go from the waist down to the ankles. The pants are loose fitting so each person can execute the stretching postures with ease. The pants should never be tight and restricting to flowing movement of the entire body. The pants are often made of soft spandex and other synthetics. Other pants are made of soft cotton or rayon blends.

Yoga clothing should include tops that allow for the freedom of movement. The sleeves on these tops come in various lengths. Each yoga person should make their choices based on their personal preferences. The tops should come in the soft fabrics like the pants.

When buying tops for yoga practice, each person should make sure that the top will not rub any body part when stretching in the yoga poses. Beautiful jackets are available in the lines of most providers. These jackets should be taken to each class to make sure that the muscles are not chilled before or after the session.

    Practising Iyengar Yoga During Pregnancy

Pregnancy can be a very exciting time, but is also a time when you may need to reduce stress levels, ease strain, and learn how to relax. Being able to do this can benefit both you and your baby, and can make your pregnancy far more comfortable and enjoyable. Exercise, as most people know, is a great way to reduce stress and increase relaxation, and when you are pregnant an ideal form of exercise that can help you to do this is yoga.

Like other forms of yoga, Iyengar yoga focuses on poses known as asanas, and breath control, known as pranayama. With a range of postures and breathing methods in use, Iyengar yoga is suitable for people of varying abilities and experience. If you've never done yoga before, there are beginner classes, and special pregnancy classes at most centers.

    Practicing yoga whilst pregnant

Exercise is the ideal way to reduce stress and relax, but regular exercise can be difficult for women that are pregnant. However, Iyengar yoga is a great way for pregnant women to release stress, relieve strain, and enjoy health benefits for themselves and their babies. When taking Iyengar yoga during pregnancy you should be able to enjoy your pregnancy more.

The Iyengar yoga pregnancy method enables up and coming mothers to use props that will help them to gain maximum benefit from their yoga without the risk of strain or injury. It is said that the postures and breathing methods that are used with Iyengar yoga are perfect for getting into shape for the birth of the baby, which is great news for mothers-to-be worried about childbirth.

A number of benefits can be gained from the use of Iyengar yoga during pregnancy, and this includes strengthening of the pelvis, reduction in lower back pain that can arise during pregnancy, improved blood circulation for the mother and unborn baby, easing of stress and tension, easing of fatigue, and strengthening of internal organs.

Postures are usually varied from the regular yoga asanas during pregnancy classes, to accommodate a woman's growing abdomen, and a greater need for support. As the abdomen grows, a woman's sense of balance will change. Also, it is better for pregnant women to move through a variety of yoga poses, in a gentle type of dance, rather than the more traditional method of holding poses for a number of breaths. This has the effect of taking pressure off the lower back, creating flexibility in the joints, and facilitating deeper breathing which increases the oxygen available to baby.

Practicing Iyengar yoga before the birth of the baby is a very good way to practice your breathing too, an important skill when you're in labor. Being able to get to grips with proper breathing methods can make the whole experience of childbirth less stressful.

When you practice the Iyengar yoga pregnancy methods you can really make the most of the time that you are pregnant, and you can ease the discomfort, tiredness, and even the stress that can come with pregnancy, and heighten the experience by improving your health and well being. By developing strong leg, arm, and back muscles, the little things that many women struggle with late in their pregnancy, like getting up from a chair or out of bed, will be much easier.
