Yoga Poses for Jet Lag

Yoga Poses for Jet Lag

For jet lag, perhaps nothing is better than yoga.

What, with the poses balancing effects on the body (namely the inversions),
yoga helps immensely to deal with the effects of jet lag, of course when used correctly.

Now jet lag appears definitely to be one these things: A Condition resulting when travel across time zones leaves a person feeling “out of sync” with local time at his or her destination.

That considered, to get you 'back in sync', one highly recommended solution will be Yoga.

The two main poses will be the Shoulderstand (and its counter poses) and if possible, the Sun Salutations.

One can also try the yoga-esque Hindu-Push-ups or simply, the good ol' relaxation or corpse pose.

It's safe to say Yoga has something for everything and everyone so for Jet Lag...stike some Yoga poses!

    The Benefit Of Yoga For Beginners
    Yoga, and the benefit of yoga, is generically defined as a Hindu discipline that helps unite the body and mind. It has been recognized for many years as the perfect discipline to help one achieve tranquility, better health, and longer life.


    In this modern age, much has been learned about the benefit of yoga for beginners, intermediate or advanced practitioners who achieve greater mobility, longer life, and internal happiness through their practice of the art.

    For beginners, the styles do vary from Hatha to Ashtanga to Bikram to Iyengar Yoga.
    I have even heard of Nude Yoga and let's not forget Kundalini Yoga.

    However I'm of the belief that once learned right and applied properly, Yoga can definitely hold its ground as a physical exercise.

    Heck, most calisthenics are simply Yoga poses in motion...

    The Most Important Yoga Pose When You Are On The Go

    With over 84, 000 poses in yoga to choose from for practice, yoga enthusiasts and practitioners might be left confused on just which ones are the most important.



    With our daily demands and commitments, most of us might not have the time to perform so many poses therefore we should focus on the one that is of the most benefit for daily practice and that is the Shoulder-Stand (known in Sanskrit as Savangasana).



    It is my recommended favorite of the inverted poses. Its ease and reminder that as a kid, you tried it before, makes it one that I emphasize even more so than the Headstand you might be familiar with as they share almost if not all the same benefits without the fear of standing on your head.



    Inverted poses reverse the action of gravity on the body. Instead of everything being pulled towards the feet, the orientation shifts towards the head. On emotional levels the Shoulder Stand turns everything upside down throwing a new light on old patterns of behavior.



    It improves health, reduces stress and anxiety and increases mental power and also increases self confidence. In addition, the abdominal organs, liver, spleen, stomach, kidneys and pancreas receive a powerful massage helping them work better.



    In Sanskrit, Sarvanga means all parts so as the name suggests, it affects all the bodily organs. It stimulates the thyroid gland, balancing the circulatory, digestive, nervous, reproductive and endocrine systems. It is indeed a panacea, a cure all. Obesity and corpulence are alleviated by this pose as well as constipation and enlargement of the liver and the spleen.



    It is best practiced with its counter poses in specific durations for maximal efficiency and when planned correctly, the whole sequence could take less than 6 minutes to carry out, depending on your schedule.



    Personally, I make the point as a practitioner to incorporate the sequence into my daily regimen with other forms of exercise, but I always place the most emphasis on this one pose for all the benefits above.



    So next time when you are unsure of which pose you have to include in your session when you are on the go, make it a point to go for the Shoulder-Stand. Your body will thank you for it.

    Poses for Trouble Spots when Using Yoga for Weight Loss:

    Abdominal Region:
    The Forward Bending Pose, the Bow Pose, the Peacock Pose, the spinal twist and the Triangle Pose.

    The Arms:
    Definitely the Peacock Pose! the Wheel Pose, the Crow Pose, the Side plank Pose and the 4-limb Staff Pose.

    The Thighs:
    The Bow Pose, The Shoulder-Stand, the Hero Pose, the triangle and wheel poses.

    Love Handles:
    The spinal twist, the triangle pose, (with practice) the Side Crow Poses, (for ease) The Side plank pose.

    I realize the spots above are the ones most of us seem to target when trying to lose weight, so I have made sure to go over them first.

    Here's a Free Yoga for Beginners' Tip: Diet Matters

    Indeed if a beginner were to say they thought Yoga was just stretching after they saw a student leave a Yoga class and later on eating at McDonald’s or something, they probably would be right.

    Why?

    Well, Yoga, in its entirety, includes a proper diet. One doesn’t exist without the other. This is THE factor that anyone seriously interested in taking up a Yoga for beginners or even advance class must understand.

    Why? Well, Yoga is more than just a physical exercise as Meditation, Breathing Exercises and even some Poses such as the Peacock, Shoulder-Stand and the Sun Salutations are known to have an effect on the spiritual core of one’s existence. This is rooted in one’s solar plexus and forms the basis of the Kundalini or life-force power inherent in all humans. Remember, we are mainly physical bodies living in a Spiritual World.

    Now keep that point in mind as I proceed to remind you of this quote and renowned cosmic law: “You are what you eat…” Now, combine the gist of both factors and you should start to see the connection between how what you eat matters to your entire existence-physically and spiritually.

    When you begin to seriously practice Yoga, it is advised that you also begin to watch what you eat. ALL the sages and pioneers of Yoga such as
    Swami Sivananda, Swami Vishnu-Devananda and BKS Iyengar have all attested to this fact.

    Yoga has an adverse effect on yours and the spiritual forces around you, consequently eating what yoga sages coin as the Sattvic Diet (which co-incidentally is the mucus/disease free or alkaline diet of the alternative health fraternity) will be the best way to go.

    Simply put, it is your fruits, roots and leafy vegetables (raw and ‘properly cooked’). This is the Yoga diet and this has to be included in your lifestyle if you seriously want to practice Yoga.

    Heck, if you just want to do any kind of exercise and not just yoga, you will still enjoy a lot of benefits from such a dietetic lifestyle.

    So do you want to experience all that a Yoga for beginners class has to give? Then remember to include perhaps its most important principle for your overall health-the Yoga diet.
