Using Fasting for Healthy Weight loss &...Acne…Hmm


Fasting for Acne…Hmm by Foras Aje

I will never forget the day a friend mentioned the use of a fast to me as a means of getting rid of my acne.



I owe that guy for giving me my life back-literally.



Now, just as he helped me a few years back, Friends, allow me to introduce you to what has been coined by Philippus Paracelsus as “the greatest remedy-the physician within”. This is a fast and for acne, it works.



What is a Fast?



Quite simply, a fast is simply abstinence from solid food for a considerable length of time in the aim of giving the digestive organs a rest. Not to mistaken for starvation, this practice greatly benefits our overall health and is by far a greater cure of our ills-both physical and mental-than all of the drugs of the medical fraternity combined.



There are many types of fasts and for treating acne (and dare I say any health problem-at least in their early and un-fatal stages), they are all quite effective.



They include:



1. The complete water fast: This, admittedly, should be conducted with extreme caution or in a specialized sanitarium if undertaken more than 3 days.



2. The Juice Fast: This is much easier for the general populace and can be undergone as long as you feel like it.



3. The Fruit Fast: This, well, is really not a fast per se…but when one lives exclusively on SEASONAL ORGANIC fruits for days on end…meaning mono meals (2 at the most ) of only one kind of fruit say Apples in Fall, Melons in summer for a week plus, you will be bound to see the benefits.



How to Fast



Being radical in nature, fasting must be undertaken with care, however from my experience with it, here are a few tips to hopefully get you started.





1. Prepare yourself for a fast by gradually tapering off of acid-forming aka “junk foods and commence to consuming raw and cooked fruits and veggies to begin a milder cleansing process as these items are the best intestinal brooms for the colon.

2. Every now and again, 3 hours after supper and say an hour or so before retiring to sleep, drink an herbal tea laxative such as “Smooth Move Herbal Tea” during this preparatory stage.

3. Drink 1-2 quarts of unflavored lemonade in the mornings to balance the chemical reactions within the body and to restore it to an alkaline state.

4. Be mentally prepared for the task ahead of fasting.

5. Take things a little easier while fasting or on a mono-diet of fruit.

6. Avoid using microwaves at all costs-can’t go into detail as that is another subject, however, TRUST me. You want to exclude the use of this so-called convenience device not only while fasting put permanently.

7. Taper off a water fast by using the second type (juice fasting) for a few days, then gradually going to the third (mono-fruit fasting), then afterwards you could (like I do most of the time) simply stick to tons of fruit as the core of your diet or include properly cooked roots, steamed or raw leafy vegetables.



Whatever you do, just please don’t go back to eating the old junk stuff. To explain why in a nutshell, here are two quotes: “You are what you eat” and “Let your foods be your medicine…”



Other tips to augment these dietetic suggestions are of course proper hygiene which includes making sure we change our pillow-cases daily, use only one towel (or paper towels) for our faces, steering clear of harsh acne medications (I just use plain cool water and facial massaging) and keeping dirty fingers off the face.



I really think options 2 and especially 3 as ways for treating acne (in regards to the types of a fast) are quite easy for any and everyone to do. So why not give it a shot? I can confidently say fasting-just like it did for me-can and will work wonders for your skin and overall health.

    Detoxification is something our bodies do on a daily basis. It is the process of eliminating toxins through the five eliminatory channels:



    Liver

    Colon

    Lungs

    Kidneys

    Lymph

    Skin



    In the world we live in today, with polluted water, air and food, our bodies regularly get overloaded with substances that do not support our body - toxins! Our bodies become overloaded and are over-burdened with eliminating toxins. So many undesirable substances stay our bodies.



    Surrounding these substances with mucous and fat is one way our system tries to shield us from these invading substances. a good portion is stored in our fat deposits!



    A detoxification program is a good way of assisting our body to eliminate and neutralize these harmful toxins.



    Let us look at the 5 organs for detoxification:



    Liver



    The liver is the largest internal organ in the body and plays a crucial role in maintaining normal metabolism and detoxifying the body.



    Colon



    Disease begins in the colon. The colon is responsible for both carrying wastes out of the body and nourishing the body. Nutrients are absorbed in the colon. So if your body is storing toxins and excess mucous they will be stuck to the intestinal walls of the colon. Making it very hard for your body to absorb the required nutrients and eliminate the wastes traveling through the colon.



    Lungs



    Your lungs are responsible for helping your body get the required oxygen it needs by processing the air we breathe. The lungs are one of the first organs to intake toxins. A cold is usually a sign that your body is trying to rid itself of toxins and waste matter that has built up to the point of overwhelming your immune system.



    Kidneys



    The kidneys play an important role as a filter for the body as well. Water is vital to helping the kidneys do their job. The average person eliminates approximately 5 pints of water a day. Drinking adequate water is essential.



    Lymph



    The lymphatic system carries a clear fluid which contains excess proteins, wastes, and other elements. This fluid called lymph surrounds the cells of our body to bring them nourishment and carry wastes out of the body.



    Unlike the blood, the lymph does not have the heart to pump it through the body. It must rely on the movement of the body and stimulation.



    Skin



    As mentioned earlier, the skin is the largest organ of the body.

    In spite of the fact that I eat mostly raw fruits and vegetables, and in spite of the fact that I may dabble into Yoga now and again, the truth remains that I still need detoxification and so does everyone.



    Moreover, if delaying the aging process is an especial goal, we need all the more to implement some detoxification therapies to bring about this process of anti-aging naturally.



    Why? Well, because the air that we breathe is polluted, the water that we drink is full of chlorine, the clothing we wear is made of artificial fabrics and chemicals, the lotions and shampoos that we use all contain chemicals. Once these chemicals are inside us, we never fully eliminate them unless we go through a detoxification procedure.



    So How can this be achieved?



    Nothing comes close to this than implementing the use of a fast.



    Probably the most important reason is that the body uses quite a bit of energy to digest food, on the other hand, when fasting this energy becomes available for other uses.



    In the fasting state, the body will scour for dead cells, damaged tissues, fatty deposits, tumors, abscesses, all of which are burned for fuel or expelled as waste. The elimination of these obstructions restores the immune system functionality and metabolic process to an optimum state.



    Fasting restores good digestion and elimination, and peristaltic action is quickened. Fasting allows a deep, physiological rest of the digestive organs, and the energy saved goes into self-healing and self-repairing.



    By eliminating obstructions, by cleansing, detoxification, and purifying the intestines, the blood, and the cells, we can overcome many of our physical ills or handicaps as well as getting a boost in energy.



    Fasting not only removes obstructions and helps the body to heal itself; it is also rejuvenating and life-extending. These resulting benefits can have lasting affects in your mental and emotional health.





    So, there it is, for a one of a kind, kick-butt method of detoxifying as a means of anti-aging, a fast of some sort will definitely be worth the shot.



    My guess is the man in the mirror will be thankful you did.

    Detoxification refers to the removal of toxic substance from human body by various methods. Detoxification takes place through various organs of the human body like lungs, liver, kidney and skin. Detoxification is also done by artificial methods like dialysis, acupuncture detoxification and chelation therapy. Alternative medicine therapies like detox diets also claim to detoxify the human body.



    The function of the liver, lungs, kidney and skin is to remove any harmful substance from the blood stream. Lungs detoxify by exhaling. Liver breaks down the toxins into smaller compounds that are then cleaned by the skin and the kidneys.



    Chelation Therapy uses chelating agents to remove metal ions from the body. Metals like mercury, lead, uranium, americium, polonium etc are harmful and act like poison in the body. Chelating agents that are used for detoxification are:



    •D-Penicillamine

    •Deferosamine

    •EDTA : Dietheylene triamine pentaacetic acid

    •DMSA : Dimercaptosuccinic acid

    •BAL : British Anti Lewisite

    •DMPS : Dimercapto-propane sulfonate

    •ALA: Alpha lipoic acid

    •Ca Na2 –EDTA : Calcuium disodium versante

    •Deferoxamine



    Detox Diet. It is a dietary course in which food consumption habits are changed to remove toxins and contaminants from the body. Proponents of this method claim improved health, vitality, immunity, weight loss etc.



    The various methods used are:



    •Calorific restriction.

    •Increased consumption of certain types of fish like salmon.

    •Fasting methods like water fasting and juice fasting.

    •Consuming certain herbs.



    In detox diets veganism is advocated in which fruits and vegetables form the majority component. Drinking more water and limiting alcohol is also advocated.



    Acupuncture Detoxification. Detoxification also refers to drug rehabilitation to treat alcoholism and drug addictions. The process in these types of detoxification involves abstinence to remove the drug completely from the body and this is usually accompanied by social and environmental support. This support is required to prevent the patient undergoing withdrawal and depression. A non drug detoxification method widely used is acupuncture detoxification. Acupuncture detoxification was very successful during the 70’s cocaine plague in the US.



    It involves a five point auricular (outer ear) protocol developed in the US by Dr Michael Smith. Presently in the US this acupuncture treatment and training is provided through the National Acupuncture Detoxificcation Association. Studies have found that patients are more likely to complete the treatment and stay away from drugs and alcohols.



    Dialysis. Dialysis is a life support treatment used to detoxify the blood when a patient’s kidneys fail. Kidneys remove waste products from the blood like potasium, acid, excess fluid and urea in the form of urine. Dialysis machine does both waste removal and fluid removal. The method used to remove the toxins from the blood is by osmosis. Blood is passed on one side of semipermeable membrane and the dialysis fluid is passed on the other side. The dialysis fluid collects the toxins from the blood by osmosis through the semi permeable membrane.



    Detoxification is done by various established methods like dialysis, acupuncture detoxification, chelation therapy etc. Some alternate medicine methods like detox diets also claim to purify the blood. However they are not proved medically.
