Folks, coming from a family that had a history of diabetes and high cholesterol problems, I have always been someone who has been quite careful about what I do and do not eat and that has led me to finally becoming a MUCUS-LEAN vegan.
Now, although the vegan diet has been primarily the reason why I've been able to cure not only my acne problems, but asthma, lethargy and bad-breath, it really doesn't surprise me that there is a helpful link between reducing symptoms of diabetes and vegan diet.
In a recent press-release that was RSS-ed to my email account, research shows that eating a low-fat vegan diet may be better at managing type 2 diabetes than traditional diets, according to a new study.
Researchers found 43 percent of people with type 2 diabetes who followed a low-fat vegan diet for 22 weeks reduced their need to take medications to manage their disease compared with 26 percent of those who followed the diet recommended by the American Diabetes Association (ADA).
In addition, participants who followed the vegan diet experienced greater reductions in cholesterol levels and weight loss than those on the other diet.
Perhaps this finding may explain why several people are searching for information on diabetes and vegan diet; that is what to eat, what is allowed and not and possible pros and cons.
Well, briefly Vegans (pronounced vee-gun or vay-gun) eat only plant foods. They do not eat meat, chicken, fish, dairy products, or eggs.
The good thing is besides being a healthy and conscious diet for improving vitality and fitness, "The diet appears remarkably effective, and all the side effects are good ones -- especially weight loss and lower cholesterol," says researcher Neal D. Barnard, MD, adjunct associate professor of medicine at the George Washington University, in a news release. "I hope this study will rekindle interest in using diet changes first, rather than prescription drugs."
Now this will be very helpful in regards to diabetes and a vegan diet for the reasons listed below.
# 43 percent of those on a vegan diet reduced their need to take drugs to manage their diabetes compared with 26 percent on ADA diet group.
I will even go as far as to say, if you take this diet to even healthier levels such as the afore-mentioned Mucus-less/Mucus-lean diet (one consisting of Fruits and Raw or Properly Cooked Vegetables intermingled with short or long fasts), it's safe to say the link between controling diabetes and the vegan diet, will be made even more symbiotic and useful.
