Can vegetarians get enough nutrition
Can vegetarians get enough nutrition?
I have been a vegetarian for about 9 years now (even gone as far as a fruitarian...but that's on hold for now though, but I'm still a mucus-less vegan) and it's always been a question that I've had to deal with when the subject of my diet is brought up: Well; "can vegetarians get enough nutrition?". Besides that main one, the other ones are "What do you eat for protein?", "It doesn't sound healthy to me, don't you miss meat?"
Well, suffice it to say that even though these people very well may mean well with their intentions, the concerns may very well not be as necessary.
Being a vegetarian may very well be the healthiest diet on the planet. For the uninformed, that actually was the original diet designed for man. (See Gen 1:29)
Moreover, our distant cousins in the wild; the great apes are primarily frugivores (which is the better biological diet classification for humans) meaning they subsists on about 60-80% fruits, leaves, shoots and roots.
The biggest and strongest of all the primates, the gorrilla actually consumes no animals whatsoever, while the orangutans and chimpanzees may very, VERY seldom dabble in fleshy foods and even then, they hunt down their prey, kill them and eat them fresh... (now tell me which of my readers can do that!)down to the bones.
(This activity is actually associated with some chimpanzee tribes in the central African countries exclusively!)
Now, back to the subject of "can vegetarians get enough nutrition?", let's assess the following common questions associated with the topic.
1. “Where do you get your protein?” Of course, the folks who wonder this may guzzle chicken wings by the bucket and soda by the gallon, never stopping to think where they get their fiber or vitamin C.
The need of protein for the human body is about a nickel's weight worth, the excess is basically excreted in urine. Based on research, the need for amino acids is highly exaggerated as only 16% or our body is Protein. Pure protein is primarily Nitrogen (N) with some Oxygen and Hydrogen and Carbon. We all know that we get a large share of our Oxygen and Hydrogen need from the air. Since we are able to utilize and assimilate a large amount of our needs of these elements, we are able to build the Nitrogen into our body as protein. This process is done by natural bacteria action that is capable of converting it to our use. People who smoke though cannot pick up Nitrogen from the air so easily but might still get enough from proper foods. Although for your well-being, cessation of tobacco usage is mandatory.
2. What about Calcium?
Although milk is a source of calcium, you certainly don’t need milk to get plenty of calcium. The milk of any animal is basically too rich humans. It is highly acidic and mucus forming. The fact that man needs to drink the milk of another creature after it has been weaned of his own mother is actually laughable and propaganda hyped by its endorsers basically for their gain.
Being a predigested food, it has been shown to cause various complications in the stomach and colon, such as cramps and convulsions. Its calcium is highly difficult to assimilate. This results in its introduction in free form into the blood stream and an eventual deposition in the tissues, cells and joints where it may cause intense pain and suffering. Milk is loaded with antibiotics, bacteria, pesticides, cholesterol and powerful growth hormones that are deeply troubling to the human body.
Contrary to the hype, drinking milk will not prevent osteoporosis. In 1995, the Harvard Nurses’ Health Study conducted on over 75, 000 women revealed that those supposedly acquiring calcium from milk experience more fractures compared to those drinking little or no milk. Now, to answer the question-can vegetarians get enough nutrition for calcium needs? Here’s some calcium-rich foods to try: spinach, collard greens, kale, , fortified orange juice, sesame seeds, broccoli, almonds, carrots.
3. What about Iron?
Folks, a study published in the British Journal of Nutrition found that iron levels in vegetarians and vegans in the UK were, on average, higher than those of the general population, showing that it’s possible to get more than enough iron on a vegan diet. Moreover, according to nutritionist, Albert Mosseri; another proof that anemia is not caused by lack of iron in a vegetarian diet is that the disease actually regresses during fasting!
4. Okay, What about B12...answer that!
It shouldn't be difficult for vegetarians, including vegans, to get the RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance) for adults. Besides animal products, many fortified vegan foods and supplements contain this crucial vitamin. If you used to eat meat, you may already have enough B12 stored in your body to be recycled and re-used for up to twenty or thirty years.
The fact is, those who insist that you may at risk of a vitamin b12 deficiency as a vegetarian, are as likely to be deficient as you are. That's because B12 deficiency tends to be caused more often by poor absorption than by inadequate intake. If you want to know for sure about your B12 status, get the blood tests done.

Now, though some non-vegetarians show bodily vigor, they usually do not possess the vegetarian’s endurance and strength. Take a look at Bill Pearl, five-time winner of the Mr. Universe pageant.
After reading these factors, if you are still curious and ask: can vegetarians get enough nutrition or if you need to be convinced of its benefits-do not worry, becoming a vegetarian (a well balanced one that is) is definitely the biggest step you’ll be taking towards improving your health.
Trust me, I've been one for almost a decade...with no plans of turning back!
To Health.
