Turns out women are twice as likely as men to be diagnosed with depression
I was surfing the net you know finding stuff to update my blogs with and it turns out, that according to studies, women are twice as likely as men to be diagnosed with depression.
Honestly, I never did know that, but after reading what the report said, I’m not too surprised.
Based on the suggestions by the experts, there are many reasons for this.
One most obvious reason that may make women more prone to depression is the levels of the sex hormones oestrogen and progesterone.
Further investigation into the reports also depicts that women have a higher level of these hormones and the levels change during the menstrual cycle, throughout pregnancy and childbirth and at the menopause.
After reading further, in addition, the levels of oestrogen and progesterone are very high in pregnancy and drop dramatically after the birth. This sudden change can sometimes trigger depression.
Consequently, about half of all new mothers go through the maternity or baby blues, 15 percent get mild to moderate postnatal depression and a small percentage may even suffer from severe depression.
Thankfully, since this blog depicts natural methods of treating depression, one helpful fact might be that women are the ones who are most likely to be open to natural methods of treating the mental ailment…so, though they may be twice as likely to be diagnosed, it’s safe to say they will be twice as likely to be treated.
