What is the most effective treatment for depression?

What is the most effective treatment for depression?

Good question.

In this day and age when a good 25-30% of the population is under some kind of treatment for depression, trying to figure out EXACTLY What is the most effective treatment for depression could be a huge task!

Huge, but attainable.

From research, it is safe to say the most effective treatment for depression usually consists of a combination of modalities. There is no simple solution. Recovery can be a long haul, even if one puts a lot of effort into it. No single treatment, therapy, or lifestyle choice on its own is likely to be fully effective. Working together, each treatment enhances the others.

Now for dedicated followers of this blog on effective depression treatment methods, one would notice that I mostly lean towards drug-free methods of healing such as
1. Proper Diet
2. Adequate Exercise
3. Positive Thinking

(Perhaps in reverse order)in regards to providing the answer to what is the most effective treatment for depression ?

But, in spite of my beliefs or views, I am still open to what other bloggers or site owners may have to say on the subject.

So let's see:

From browsing online; I culled up the following tips that could come in handy for those seeking the most effective treatment for depression options:

* Set realistic goals in light of the depression and assume a reasonable amount of responsibility.
* Break large tasks into small ones, set some priorities, and do what you can as you can.
* Try to be with other people and to confide in someone; it is usually better than being alone and secretive.
* Participate in activities that may make you feel better.
* Mild exercise, going to a movie, a ballgame, or participating in religious, social, or other activities may help.
* Expect your mood to improve gradually, not immediately. Feeling better takes time.
* It is advisable to postpone important decisions until the depression has lifted. Before deciding to make a significant transition—change jobs, get married or divorced—discuss it with others who know you well and have a more objective view of your situation.
* People rarely "snap out of" a depression. But they can feel a little better day-by-day.
* Remember, positive thinking will help replace the negative thinking that is a central part of your depression. Negative thoughts will disappear as your depression responds to treatment.
* Let your family and friends help you.

One can also look into depression therapy retreats or holistic depression therapy options that could involve such helpful methods of depression help such as talk therapies, Yoga, Tai-chi etc

Personally, in overcoming my bouts of depression symptoms, I've found that exercise (at times even very vigorously done), can be extremely helpful as this exercises the motor sections of the brain, making one more receptive to positive thoughts.

I also try to watch what I consume. Believe it or not folks, what we ingest does play a role on our emotional health. Consequently, I might employ the use of a fruit juice fast for a passage of time or the consumption of sweet fruits (if I must eat that is) such as Mangoes, Persimmons, Melons etc...don't know the exact connection, but the sugars make a brother feel good.

Last but not least, I pray and try to suggest positive uplifting thoughts to my situation.

It also helps to seek the company of good uplifting friends, or anything to make you laugh and lift up the spirits albeit temporary.

As mentioned, in trying to deduce exactly what is the most effective treatment for depression, one has to keep in mind that it oft-times has to be a combination of things to work successfully.

I believe they lie in the drug-free methods listed above, at least for a solid foundation...

Any one care to comment?
