Asthma and Allergy medication

Common types of Asthma and Allergy medication

Although this is a blog on natural asthma treatment, suffice it to say that since many people may not necessarily be ready or prepared to fore-go so-called asthma drugs for alternative asthma treatment options, most people might still want information on asthma and allergy medication options.

Being as though some recent studies have shown that when you give allergy shots to children with allergies, not only do their allergy symptoms improve, but they are also less likely to develop asthma. Also, since many cases of asthma are triggered by allergies, it makes sense that if you control the allergies, you will have fewer asthma attacks, so for those who choose more of a conventional approach for asthma treatment, perhaps there may be a link between asthma and allergy medication after all.

That said I'll list the common asthma and allergy medication choices most people use, BUT in keeping with the theme of this blog on natural asthma treatment techniques, I will provide some tips and a link to alternative asthma treatment, which may not hurt and possibly could help immensely after all.

1. Accolate
Accolate helps prevent asthma attacks. It is prescribed for long-term treatment. Accolate will not stop an asthma attack once it starts. You will still need to use an airway-opening medication when an attack occurs.

2. Singulair
Singulair is the first asthma controller medication in over a decade indicated for use in children as young as 2 years. Singulair is a new type of medication for the prevention and long-term treatment of asthma. Singulair is steroid-free and offers the convenience of a once-daily tablet.

3. Claratyne / Claratin
Claratyne relieves symptoms associated with perennial and seasonal allergies: such as sneezing, nasal discharge and itching, as well as itching and burning of the eyes.
Claritin has no drowsy side effects.
Claratin D
CLARINASE, also known as Claritin D, provides 12 hours relief from allergic rhinitis (hayfever) symptoms. Each CLARINASE tablet contains 5mg of non-drowsy anti-histamine (loratadine) and 120mg of a decongestant (pseudoephedrine sulfate)

4. Telfast / Allegra
Manufactured in the USA and distributed by Hoechst Marion Roussel,
Telfast (known in the USA as Allegra) 60mg capsules contain an active ingredient called "fexofenadine".
It is one of a group of medicines called "antihistamines".
Antihistamines relieve the symptoms of hives( Urticaria ) hayfever such as sneezing, itchy/watery red eyes and runny nose.

5. Telfast D / Allegra D
Telfast Decongestant (ALLEGRA-D) should be administered when both the antihistaminic properties of fexofenadine hydrochloride and the nasal decongestant properties of pseudoephedrine hydrochloride are desired
Allegra works on your seasonal allergy symptoms: your itchy, watery eyes, plus sneezing and runny nose. But if you find your nose is stuffed up too, you should consider Allegra-D. Allegra-D has the same antihistamine as Allegra with the added relief of a decongestant.

6. Telfast 120
Manufactured in the USA and distributed by Hoechst Marion Roussel,
Telfast (known in the USA as Allegra) 120mg capsules contain an active ingredient called "fexofenadine".

7. Zyrtec
Zyrtec tablets are an anti-allergy remedy containing the active ingredient Cetirizine Hydrochloride 10mg.
The most common form of allergy is hayfever, a seasonal disorder occurring during Spring and Summer caused by airborne pollens.

8. Becloforte / Beclovent
Becotide /Beclovent
This medicine is used for the treatment of chronic asthma to prevent attacks. It is not helpful during an asthma attack. The biggest benefit may be seen after 2 weeks of the medicine. It may help patients get off oral steroids.

9. Qvar Inhaler
QVAR™ is the first aerosol spray capable of delivering medication to all parts of the lung including the smallest of breathing tubes.

10. Pulmicort
PULMICORT TURBUHALER is an inhaled corticosteroid. The medication in your PULMICORT TURBUHALER works to reduce and prevent inflammation in your airways and helps manage your asthma symptoms when used regularly.

11. Flixotide / Flovent
Flovent Diskus
Fluticasone, Flixotide or Flovent is a steroid which reduces the inflammation of nasal passages or bronchial tissue. By reducing the inflammation, Fluticasone, Flixotide or Flovent makes breathing easier.

12. Ventolin
Ventolin relaxes the smooth muscle in the lung and dilates airways to improve breathing. Ventolin is used in the treatment of asthma, chronic bronchitis, and emphysema. The inhaler enables the drug to reach deep into the lungs for maximum benefit.

13. Volmax
Oral albuterol sulfate (salbuterol) belongs to a class of antiasthmatic agents called sympathomimetic bronchodilators. It is used to treat and prevent bronchospasm in patients with reversible obstructive airway disease and exercise-induced bronchospasm.

14. Serevent Inhaler
Serevent Accuhaler
Salmeterol is a bronchodilator which is similar to albuterol (Proventil® or Ventolin®) and other "shorter-acting" medications such as bitolterol (Tornalate®), pirbuterol (Maxair®) and terbutaline (Brethaire®). Salmeterol differs from these medications in that it does not begin working immediately and has a longer duration of action. This allows for twice daily dosing rather than the usual four times daily or every 4-6 hours dosing.

15. Atrovent
Atrovent is used to make breathing easier for people with diseases such as asthma, emphysema (a serious condition that makes breathing difficult), and chronic obstructive bronchitis.

Atrovent improves air flow by relaxing the muscular tubes (air passages) that carry air to and from your lungs. It begins to act quickly after use but may take up to 2 hours to give maximum benefit.

16. Combivent

Physicians prescribe COMBIVENT® Inhalation Aerosol for many reasons. Two common reasons are

It's more convenient for patients already regularly using two different inhalers. It may be better therapy for patients using either ipratropium bromide or albuterol sulfate alone. Many patients benefit more when they use both.

Both of the medications in COMBIVENT® Inhalation Aerosol, ipratropium bromide and albuterol sulfate, may help open up the airways in the lungs to help air move more easily in and out. Each of the the two medications works differently.
Seretide, Advair MDI

17. Advair Diskus

Seretide contains two types of asthma medication. One is fluticasone propionate, a steroid that reduces inflammation in the lungs. The other, salmeterol, is a long-acting bronchodilator that opens up the airways. Together, the two ingredients provide better control of asthma than either does individually.

18. Rhinolast / Astelin
Rhinolast also known as Astelin is an anti-histamine nasal spray. RHINOLAST prevents the actions of histamines and other substances in the nose that cause allergic reactions to pollens (i.e. Hayfever, allergic rhinitis) or other allergens such as cat and dog hair or house dust. Each bottle of RHINOLAST nasal spray contains 70 doses, each dose contains 0.14mg of azelastine hydrochloride.

19. Nasonex
Nasonex is a prescription nasal spray intended to help people prevent the symptoms of indoor and outdoor allergies such as pet dander, dust mites, mold, and pollens in grass, weeds, and trees. For the people suffering from seasonal allergies, Nasonex should begin to be taken 2 weeks before the season starts since

20. Tilade
Tilade is an anti-inflammatory medication prescribed for use on a regular basis to control symptoms in people with mild to moderate asthma.

Talk about an exhausting list of asthma and allergy medication choices!

Nonetheless, there they are for your information as stated.

Natural Alternatives to Asthma and Allergy medication drugs

Now, that I've given 'kudos' to the medical fraternity by presenting their options for controlling respiratory disorders, allow me to present some simple tips and alternatives to these common asthma and allergy medication drugs that you could use preferrably exclusively, or in conjunction with the ones above (the latter choice honestly not a favorite but...)

1. Avoid excessive temperature changes.
2. Ensure dust mites are reduced as much as possible in your home
3. Use a humidifier in the cold seasons.
4. Keep fresh air circulating as much as possible in the home.

Do keep in mind that as an alternative (or as a supplement) to using asthma and allergy medication that it is advised that you avoid Mucus-Forming foods such as Animal flesh and products, Most Grains, Junk and Processed Foods and even some so-called health-food products like Soy, Yeast, Bragg’s Liquid Aminos and Vinegar.

Abstinence from the products above is a must and a fact that has been in effect in several programs aimed at correcting respiratory health and providing effective methods fot the treatment and solution for asthma such as the "Breath Retaining Program For Asthmatics" developed by the Russian, Dr. Buteyko. Within weeks of adhering to this advice, many chronic asthmatics have been able to give up the use of ventolin inhalers.

Replace these items with Fruits, Leafy and Root Vegetables and if desired less harmful whole grains like Brown rice, Quinoa, Amaranth and Millet occasionally.

Also make sure to combine your meals properly and not to consume liquids of any kinds while eating so as not to constrict proper movement of the visceral organs that lie underneath the all important diaphragm. In addition, make the effort to avoid the use of microwaves, conventionally grown produce and polluted tap water for your optimal health.

So, there you have it, both sides and methods of controlling asthma: tips on Natural Asthma treatment and the choices of asthma and allergy medication drugs.

Though, you by now know where I stand; the choice is yours mate.

All in all, here's to freer breathing!
