Can Eating Salmon Really Give You A Flawless Face?

For years doctors have been telling us that eating junk food doesn’t cause acne, and you probably know at least one person who eats candy and chocolate non-stop and still has lovely skin. But recently the medical establishment has begun to give serious consideration to how what we eat impacts our health, and our appearance.

One of the most prominent spokespeople for this cause is Dr. Nicholas Perricone, whose "Wrinkle Cure" system touts salmon as a skin-saving miracle food. What started as a fringe trend--eating fish to get a smoother face--has now blossomed into a popular diet plan, and millions of men and women have given it a go. Even Oprah has sung the praises of this pink-orange fish on her talk show. What’s the reason for the popularity of the so-called salmon diet? Simple: it works.

Why Salmon?

Salmon, along with tilapia, trout, herring and sardines, are rich in a substance called omega-3 fatty acids. Don’t balk at that term--these fats are terrific for you. In fact, they are crucial to the growth and functioning of our organs, and they supposedly help to diminish dangerous inflammation within the body. (It’s that inflammation that can trigger a host of conditions we’d rather avoid, like acne, obesity, diabetes and heart disease.) Among the different types of fish, salmon is one of the richest, chockfull of good-for-you fats and other healthful substances that keep your body functioning like a well-oiled machine.

Did you know that humans are not able to produce omega-3s? That’s why it’s so important that we obtain them from the foods we eat on a daily basis. When you eat plenty of salmon and stick to a healthy overall diet and lifestyle, you will begin to see dramatic changes in your skin’s appearance and texture. Your skin will become smoother, plumper and more moisture-rich. Blemishes will fade and you’ll regain the glow you may have had when you were a teenager. Your eyes will likely become brighter, your hair shinier and stronger, and even your mood cheerier!

How Much Should You Eat?

Make salmon (or other fatty fish) a regular part of your meal plan. Aim to have fish about 10 times per week, whether in the form of a morning omelet, a lunchtime salad, or a dinnertime fish filet. Top your whole wheat bagel with lox for a delicious and healthy "booster shot" for your skin. Grill salmon plain and top with a mango relish. There is virtually no limit to what you can do with this delicious and versatile ingredient!

Round out your nutritious lifestyle with plenty of leafy greens and antioxidant-rich fruits, such as berries. A handful of nuts is also a great addition to your daily diet plan.     Stop Aging With Anti-Oxidants

    Advice for Anti Aging Skin Care

    No matter how much you take care of your skin, it is likely to show some kind of sign of aging eventually. The point to developing an anti aging skin care regimen is to slow down the process of aging. This is because technically it is impossible to reverse aging except in a very superficial way.

    In order to fight the effects of aging you need to be vigilant when it comes to managing the many factors that can contribute to a premature aging of the skin. These destructive factors include the effects of the sun, ultraviolet light in offices, wind, a lack of humidity, smoking, rapid weight loss, an unhealthy diet and neglecting to drink enough water every day.

    There are quite a few anti aging skin care products on the market that can help keep your skin looking superficially better by plumping it up through hydration or polishing it through exfoliation. However true beauty comes from within which means that the best-looking skin comes from the person who is healthy both inside and out.

    Developing beauty from within necessitates the development of a healthy lifestyle. A lifestyle that is healthy for the skin means drinking eight glasses of water a day, getting at least eight hours of sleep and using a quality moisturizer every day. These are three simple things you can make a part of your daily skin care regiment to bring back a healthy youthful glow to your skin.

    If you skin feels dry, thin or weather beaten then you must start to take measures to protect your skin from the sun and the wind. If you must be exposed to direct sunlight be sure to wear a moisturizing sunscreen. Avoid sunscreens that contain alcohol, as applying alcohol to the skin will dry it out and age it more.

    A good moisturizer can protect your skin from the wind as well as keep it hydrated. Make up can also dry out the skin and give it a thin creped appearance so always make sure that you hydrate it before you apply any type of make up. Never leave your make up on all night as that causes skin to itch, flake and dry out as well. Make removing all traces of make up at night an essential part of your anti aging skin care regimen.

    If you are going to use an anti aging product choose ones that contain antioxidants such as grape seed, coenzyme Q and beta-carotene. These ingredients contain components that fight the free radicals that can cause the oxidization of skin cells and exaggerate the look of wrinkles. Antioxidants also help protect the collagen and skin and help it to remain firm and pliant.

    Another tactic might be to make sure you are getting enough vitamins. Deficiency of even one of the major vitamins (A, C or any in the E group) can cause the skin to look dry and worn out. If you are not sure whether or not you are getting enough vitamins from natural sources like food, then make sure you take a vitamin-mineral supplement every day. Vitamins A, C, E and D; biotin, choline, inositol, calcium, copper, iodine, zinc, phosphorous are all essential to the look of healthy skin. You might also want to consider supplementing your diet lecithin, DNA, RNA, anti-oxidants, protein, fiber, essential fatty acids, food grade collagen and evening primrose oil. Making these all natural supplements part of your anti aging skin care regimen can help improve the look of your skin.

    Stimulating the sweat glands and tiny blood vessels of the skin can also help reduce the signs of aging. Sweating toxins out in steam rooms and making sure to get at least three hours of aerobic exercise a week can go a long way towards revitalizing your skin's appearance. The key is to stimulate the circulatory system so that your skin cells have a way of rapidly disposing of toxins and assimilating new nutrients. Steaming your skin also discourages the growth of bacteria that can contribute to other skin problems such as acne.

    The overall thing to remember when it comes to anti aging skin care is that what you put into your body will show on the outside. You should eat a proper diet and healthy foods and make healthy hygienic habits (such as removing make up at night) part of your anti aging skin care regimen.

    Mature Men And The Health Issue They Ignore

    Too often, as we age, we tend to become quite leery of visiting our physicians for regular checkups. Unfortunately, though, we cannot always rely on the standard, "I feel fine - why see the doc?" Diseases, conditions, and chronic illnesses can wreak havoc on the health and even the life if they are not detected and treated early on. Any health related magazine or pamphlet will tell you, after a certain age, women need to have annual mammograms, pap smears, and the like, and men need to have annual check-ups, as well. In particular, the prostate must be kept healthy, and yet far too many men are reluctant to face this very real health issue.

    Prostate cancer affects millions of men the world over, and so many of these cases would have been prevented had the men heeded the advice of medical professionals. Why do men seem to brush off the need for this exam? Likely, it has to do with the personal nature of the exam itself, many men simply have a very real embarrassment about having their genital areas probed and prodded in a doctor's office. Whether the doctor is male or female may also play a role, as some men are naturally uncomfortable having another man, albeit a doctor, a professional, examine these most private of areas, while others are genuinely skittish about having a female doctor do the same.

    It is quite unfortunate that this could prevent so many males in today's society from addressing such an important health issue, but it is certainly true. How many women have to prod their husbands to the point of exasperation to get them to visit a doctor for an illness, let alone a routine physical? The macho bravado so many display is really a feeling of fear that something may truly be wrong with them, what if the doctor finds something wrong? What if there are more tests to be conducted to rule out the possibility of that dreaded word: cancer? No one, to be honest, wants to find that they are suffering from an illness, but it is truly better to know than to be kept in the dark. This health issue is of such dire importance that men simply cannot ignore it, and yet they do.

    All in all, a health issue that can be taken care of quite easily with an annual, routine check-up is one that is still ignored by many males. No one can stress the importance of preventative medicine enough to make men understand that the embarrassment, the fear, the general feeling of being uncomfortable, are all quite natural, but they must be overcome. To prevent or at least detect prostate cancer early on is nowhere near as loathsome as having to go through surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation. Men, take control of your health, and do not let this health issue be one that you overlook.

    Last researches concluded that one of the fundamental problems in the whole debate over the use of growth hormone to combat the effect of aging is misinterpretation of data.



    In 1990, a paper published in the New England Journal of Medicine - About growth hormone - presented results of a small study, in which twelve men over the age of 60 were injected three times a week with growth hormone for six months.



    They got significant increases in lean body mass and bone minerals, unlike a group of nine men who had received no treatment.



    The increase in muscle and decrease in fat were equivalent in magnitude to the changes incurred during 10 to 20 years of aging. However, authors of that study made no claims pointing treatment had reversed the aging process and stated that many question remained unanswered.



    Because of this, a wave of misinterpretation persists to this day despite repeated efforts by the journal to play down sensational claims for “growth hormone releasing agents” widely sold on internet. A warning against the general use of growth hormone was accompanied in the original study.



    Paper published in 1990 received as many online hits as other 2.000 articles got in a year. People who sell growth hormone as anti-aging treatment have cited this document as supporting evidence all this time.



    This year, a new research will be published in the Jan 16 “Issue of Annals of Internal Medicine”. This one states that using growth hormones as anti-aging treatment can have serious negative side effects.



    This paper focused solely on studies using growth hormone to treat the elderly, specifically those whose main illnesses were nothing worse than age and being mildly to moderate overweight. They also included only studies that evaluated the use of the hormone in randomized and controlled clinical trials.



    Summing up, the studies provided no real evidence that support growth hormone anti-aging therapy resulting in increased fitness.
