Cardiovascular exercise after weight training
Should I do Cardiovascular exercise after weight training
There are several schools of thought as to whether one should perform cardiovascular exercise after weight training.
On this subject, I will share this anecdote.
See here is what I do for strength training:
1. 60 to 100 ab wheel rollouts
2. Unlimited Chin-ups
3. Unlimited Chair Dips
4. Unlimited Pull-ups.
I do the super set format, meaning while resting the main muscle groups in the first exercise, I am working another.
Now, I always figured I had to do something for my legs, so I resumed jogging and once I tried to jog before doing the exercises above.
Well, suffice it to say I felt like some crap, I was NOT energized with the workout, felt tired, so after eating my lunch I investigated online on the subject of doing cardiovascular exercise after weight training
Turns out I should have done jogging (a cardiovascular exercise AFTER the body weight Calisthenics (which we could call weight training), I tried this format and believe you me, I was on a high the whole day.
Now, here are some points that I saw online a that steered me in that direction.
Why I personally do my Cardiovascular exercise after my weight training
The cool-down after strength training is also crucial. Whenever a vigorous exercise session is stopped abruptly, blood tends to accumulate in the lower body. With reduced blood return, cardiac output decreases and light-headedness may occur. Because muscle movement helps squeeze blood back to the heart, it is important to continue some muscle activity after the last exercise is completed. Easy cycling, walking, or any other cardiovascular exercise at low intensity is an appropriate cool-down activity, as is any other form of cardiovascular exercise.

The other time where aerobic exercise is effective is immediately after the weight training session. The reason for this is that when exercise is not performed first thing in the morning it takes your body approximately anywhere between 20 to 30 minutes to start burning fat.

Question
Should I do my cardio before or after weight training?
Response
Glycogen stores are stores of energy that your body uses during weight training and cardiovascular exercise. Although, during weight training glycogen stores are the only energy source used. Thus, completing your cardiovascular routine before weight training will substantially deplete your energy (glycogen) stores needed to complete a proper weight training program. Also, completing your weight training before your cardiovascular program significantly decreases you glycogen stores. So, when you begin your cardiovascular training your body burns less glycogen and more of your stored fat. In summary, to reach you optimal fat burning stages and to have the proper energy to utilize an exercise program, complete your weight training before you cardiovascular training.

All of these factors above considered, suffice it to say that it is best to do cardiovascular exercise after weight training to really maximize the benefits.
All the technical points aside, it is what feels right to me anyway...and I'm pretty observant of my body!
